I’ve been asked several times which is better, juicing or blending. Well, they are both a great ‘fast food’ option, a thousand times better than traditional fast foods, they are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, plus can be very tasty and refreshing. But they are different depending on your health goals.
If your goal is to lose weight by eating less and reducing your food craving, then smoothies (blending) may work better for you. Blending keeps the whole vegetable and fruit, hence retaining all the insoluble fiber, which will help slow down your digestive system. This will keep you full longer and allows for a slower and more sustained release of energy. This will help to balance your blood sugar and curb your appetite between meals.
The downside to blending is, indigestible fiber will attach itself to some of the nutrients from the smoothie and shuttle them out of the body, which reduces the amount of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants absorbed in the bloodstream. The upside is that you will get more nutrients to drink from fewer fruits and vegetables than juicing, making it more affordable to sustain. Blenders are also much cheaper than juicers.
On the other hand, juicing is also a fantastic choice for weight loss and promoting great health and vitality.
You place the whole fruit and vegetable in the juicer, it then separates the pulp from the juice leaving just the soluble fiber rather than the indigestible one. This fiber is easily digested and quickly passed through the blood stream, which allows the digestive system to utilize more of its energy to evacuate from your body, more built-up waste, and toxins. The quick absorption of all those vitamins, minerals and antioxidants released, gives you a blast of energy and replenishes your body making you feel healthier.
If the cost for you is important because of your financial circumstances, the juicer can seem unreachable, though well worth the investment. You would also require most fruits and vegetables to match the amount a smoothie provides.
If you find it easier to go to a shop and buy the juices or smoothies, please stay away those with added sugar or sold in a plastic container, which is another whole conversation to be had. It is also very important to choose a great portion of vegetables over fruit because some fruits have high sugar content, for as you know for good health and weight loss, reducing sugar is vital. Though the sugar from fruits is a thousand times more healthy than the artificial and refined sugars, companies can potentially poison us with.
